How to Prepare Your Home, Body, and Mind for Fall

Fall is on its way, and there’s no better time to get your home + life in order!  With back to school and all of the fun festivals and activities that happen this time of year, it can feel like an even busier extension of summer. But don’t let the months slip away! Here are a few practical changes and reminders to get prepared for the fall.

Bringing Fall Into Your Home

I have a few simple ways that can help you bring fall into your home. Think low-stress but all the great fall feels!

Add the colors of the changing season through easy accessories: This can be as simple as adding a new fall-scented candle to your coffee table or swapping out your summer throw pillows for some cozier ones in autumnal hues. Maybe you want to go a step further and swap out your front door wreath or hanging plant. Small changes like this can really make your space feel refreshed for the new season.

Get out the candles! Candles can really help to set the mood. Nothing says fall like lighting a pumpkin spice candle when you walk in the door after a long day. This is such an easy way to change the vibe of any room and they make such a big impact.

If you’re not a fan of pumpkin spice, that’s ok! There are so many amazing fall candles out there with scents like apple cider, cinnamon, vanilla, etc. Find one (or two…or three…) that you love and enjoy!

Fall is a great time to declutter. One thing I always like to do at the beginning of a new season is to go through my house and get rid of anything I don’t need or use anymore. Not only does this help declutter my space, but it also gives me a chance to make a little extra money by selling things on Facebook marketplace. And who doesn’t love that?!?

How to Prepare your Mind for Fall

Check-in with yourself. Just like the seasons outside we too are going through internal changes. Outside the temperatures are changing and life is slowing, why not redirect that to how we feel about ourselves as well?

It’s important to take some time for introspection. Take inventory of what’s been working well in your life and what areas you may want to focus on improving. This is also a great time to reconnect with nature and spend time outside enjoying the cooler temperatures and curl up with a good book. However, you choose to spend this season, make sure you’re taking care of yourself both physically and mentally.

Preparing Your Body for Fall: Make That Doctors Appointment!

When was the last time you visited the doctor for a general check-up? Chances are good it wasn’t during the summer! Now is a great time to check on your bloodwork. It’s especially good to check your Vitamin D and Iron levels.

Both of these things affect your mood, energy, and immune system. If you live in a northern climate where winter is more dark than light, your Vitamin D levels will take a hit. If you can boost those levels now and get in a regular routine of taking supplements if needed it can make a big difference.

Most insurance companies cover an annual physical, so if you haven’t been to the doctor in awhile, now is the time! You’ll thank yourself later when you’re not struggling with fatigue or getting sick all the time. Trust me on this one 😉

Fall is such a wonderful time of year and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t prepare both your home and mind for all the beauty and magic that comes with it! By following these simple tips, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying everything this season has to offer!
